Where to Put a Porta Potty: The Placement Checklist
Nine checks that decide whether delivery goes in five minutes or gets rescheduled.

What is the best spot for a porta potty?
The best spot for a porta potty is level, firm ground within about 25 feet of pavement or gravel, at least 10 feet from windows and air intakes, with the door facing away from the wind. The service truck must be able to park within reach of the hose, about 50 feet.
- Level ground. A unit on a slope rocks and can tip. Use a pad or a flat patch.
- Firm surface. Gravel, pavement or dry lawn. Soft ground after rain sinks the corners.
- Within 25 feet of pavement. Our trucks stay off lawns; the crew carries the unit in.
- Gate width. A standard unit is 43.5 inches wide; an accessible unit is 62 inches.
- Overhead clearance. Watch for low wires and branches above the truck path.
- Away from windows. Keep 10 feet from windows, decks and air-conditioner intakes.
- Wind. Face the door away from the lake or open field. We stake exposed units.
- Lighting. For evening events, place it near a porch light or hang a lantern.
- Service truck reach. The pump hose reaches about 50 feet from where the truck parks.
How do I tell the driver where to put it?
Mark the spot with a traffic cone, a flag or a chalk X, and text a photo of it when you book. Add gate codes, dogs, low wires and parked cars to your order notes. The driver texts about 30 minutes before arrival and sends a photo once the unit is placed.
Can a porta potty go on the street?
A porta potty can go on a street only with approval from the city, village or town that owns it. Transit Road, Lake Avenue and other state routes need a New York State DOT highway work permit. Driveways and yards need no permit at all.
