Legal minimum from OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(c). Our recommendation assumes one unit per 10 workers on a 40-hour week with weekly service. Confirm site rules with your general contractor.

What does the ADA require for portable toilets at events?

The 2010 ADA Standards, section 213.2, require that where portable toilets are provided in a cluster, at least 5 percent of them, and no fewer than one, are accessible. An accessible unit needs a turning space of a 60-inch diameter circle or a T-shaped space, plus an accessible route.

Read the standard at the U.S. Access Board. Our accessible units are described by the manufacturer as wheelchair-accessible; confirm the full setup with your venue.

When is an event a New York mass gathering?

Under 10 NYCRR 7-4.1, a mass gathering is an event likely to attract 5,000 people or more and continue for 24 hours or more. Mass gatherings need a permit from the state or county health department, which reviews sanitation, including toilets, before the event.

Source: 10 NYCRR Subpart 7-4. Smaller events still need landowner approval when held on public land.

Can my HOA ban a porta potty?

An HOA can limit placement and duration under its own rules. Check your covenants before a long rental.

Do I need to tell my neighbors?

Telling neighbors is not required, but a heads-up avoids complaints, especially on a shared driveway.
